VERYWORDS Begins Expansion into Cambodia… Establishes Factory to Produce 10,000 Electric Scooters Annually

Eco-friendly mobility company VERYWORDS announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 26 for a new e-mobility system (battery, charging stations, electric scooters) assembly plant in Cambodia.

The event was attended by key figures including Suy Sem, Cambodia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation. Also present were Korean Ambassador to Cambodia Park Jung-wook, KOICA Cambodia Office Director Noh Hyun-joon, and KOTRA Director Choi Jo-hwan.

The Cambodian factory was established with support from KOICA’s Inclusive Business Program. This project, which runs until 2025, aims to reduce carbon emissions and create jobs in Cambodia, a country experiencing rapid economic growth and rising greenhouse gas levels.

Based on market research, the plant will initially focus on producing compact 3kW-class electric scooters, which are preferred by local consumers. In the future, VERYWORDS plans to diversify its product lineup to include high-performance delivery scooters, electric three-wheelers for logistics, and kiosk-type charging stations to expand its market share.

VERYWORDS also plans to build a battery recycling center in partnership with KOICA. The goal is to establish a circular model by disassembling used batteries whose performance has dropped below 40%, extracting black mass (an intermediate recycled material), and using it in the production of new batteries.

VERYWORDS is already well-known in Cambodia as an electric scooter company. In July last year, it signed a supply agreement with Sathapana Bank, Cambodia’s fourth-largest commercial bank, to deliver 10,000 electric scooters annually. In February this year, it signed another agreement with Woori Bank Cambodia to install charging stations at 140 branches and gradually replace 3,000 operational motorcycles with eco-friendly electric scooters.

The company also signed a deal with Foodpanda, Cambodia’s largest delivery service, to convert delivery rider motorcycles to electric scooters. Additionally, VERYWORDS plans to begin supplying scooters to private consumers starting in July or August based on pre-orders received earlier this year.

VERYWORDS CEO Kim Sung-woo stated, “We are positioning Cambodia as a key hub for expanding e-mobility across Southeast Asia, and plan to expand into Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand.” He added, “We will lead efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region and promote ESG and carbon-neutral practices.”

The factory is located in the Kien Svay industrial complex, about 20 km from Phnom Penh. It spans 2,400㎡ and offers excellent accessibility by both road and water due to its proximity to a new port area along the Mekong River.

The plant will assemble and produce e-mobility system products based on a Battery Swap System (BSS). The e-mobility system consists of batteries, charging stations, and electric scooters, with the capacity to produce 10,000 electric scooters annually.
